Our interdisciplinary team include psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed counselors and other medical professionals.

Dr. Yakov Sherk

Dr. Yakov Sherk is a child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist based in Columbus, Ohio. He is the founder of A Child & Family Psychiatry LLC.

Dr. Sherk is a 2011 graduate of the Jacobs School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry at the University of Buffalo in Buffalo, New York. He has received awards from the University of Buffalo for “Outstanding Contribution to Child and Adolescent Psychiatry” as well as for his publication “Liquid melatonin via gastrostomy as an alternative hypnotic in a child with Pervasive Developmental Disorder” published in the Journal Child and Adolescent Psychopharmacology.

Dr. Sherk has a highly comprehensive approach to mental health treatment based on mindfulness and positive self-expression. While medication alone is enough for some, it is not always the sole solution. He believes in tailoring treatment options to fit the need of each individual patient including a balanced approach that involves patients in their medical decision planning.

Dr. Sherk offers FDA approved most advanced treatment option for depression such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). Dr Sherk and his outstanding team help patients with depression in Columbus Ohio.

Dr Sherk also has another focus of interest like helping children and adults to improve thinking skills and individual learning potential by using Cognitive enhancement therapy as a therapeutic approach focused on treating specific neurocognitive areas.

Sandy Cappel
Chief Operating Officer

Sandy comes to us with over 35 years of experience in Medical Management, Medical Billing, Collections and Medical Accounting. Sandy has worked in many different medical offices ranging from Pediatrics to Neurology but has focused mainly in the Mental and Behavioral Health setting for many years. Sandy is knowledgeable in Health Insurance Coverage, Medical Billing Laws, Medical Coding as well as HIPAA Compliance.

Psychologist

Jeanette Meisel
Ed.S.

Jeanette works with Dr. Sherk to administer tests that measure patients’ cognitive, academic, executive function, and social/emotional development. Trained as a school psychologist with more than 15 years of experience in the public school system, Jeanette has enjoyed working as a psychometrist for Dr. Sherk to administer tests in the clinic since 2021. 

Jeanette holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s and Educational Specialist Degree in School Psychology from Kent State University. She administers evaluations for patients in the office and via Telehealth and is passionate about helping patients and their families.

Shelley Miller
LISW, C.Ht

I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker and a certified Clinical Hypnotherapist with a master’s degree from Walden University. I work with all populations and have enriched my experience working primarily with children and families mostly with ADHD, ODD, anxiety and depression.

My therapeutic approach stems from the western philosophy of evidenced based treatments such as CBT, and Solution Focused therapies, however, I also will incorporate a holistic eastern philosophy that includes; personal journeys, life purpose and spiritual values at the discretion of the client. I believe that to help someone heal completely they must have the opportunity and access to a complete compliment of treatment perspectives.

Hi there! I’m delighted to introduce myself as the TMS Coordination specialist for A Child & Family Psychiatry. My passion lies in providing top-notch coordination and support for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy.

What I Do:
As a TMS Coordination specialist, my primary goal is to ensure a smooth and seamless TMS treatment experience for both patients and healthcare providers. From scheduling appointments and coordinating with insurance providers to assisting in the preparation and implementation of treatment plans, I strive to make the journey as stress-free as possible for everyone involved. I am always eager to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in TMS therapy and related fields. This allows me to provide accurate information, address any concerns or questions, and guide individuals through the intricacies of the treatment process.

My Mission:
Above all, my ultimate satisfaction comes from witnessing the positive impact that TMS therapy has on the lives of those battling with mental health. It is truly gratifying to be part of a transformative process that brings hope, healing, and improved well-being to those in need.

Angel Grimm
Front Desk Specialist

Angel received her degree in Phlebotomy and has many years of experience in the medical field. She has worked for Ohio State University as well as the Department of Education. She also has 15 years of experience working with children. On her days off she enjoys spending time with her family, pets and loves to travel and cook.
